Use Favorite Contacts

Having quick and easy access to the people you talk to most is essential when using Skype. The best way to do this is by using the Favorites feature in your list of Contacts. All of the people your talk to most will then be listed on top.

You can add contacts to your Favorites two ways:

  • Drag and drop a contact to the Favorites area at the top of Contacts.
  • Select the star next to the contact’s name while in the chat window.

Customize Notifications

Did you know that Skype allows you to manage your notifications? This is extremely helpful if you are getting too many notifications or maybe just not the right ones. As we’ve mentioned before, notifications can make or break your productivity.

To customize your notifications, go to Tools > Options > Notifications and click on Notification settings. Then just select/deselect from the list what you’d like to be notified of.

Connect Facebook to Skype

To stay even more connected with friends and family, you can connect your Facebook account to Skype. This will allow you to see, “like” comments, and post a status on your Facebook newsfeed from your Skype homepage. You can also import your Facebook contacts into Skype, chat, and even make an audio or video call to a Facebook friend.

Edit Your Last Message

Have you ever sent a message on Skype and then realized that what you wrote contained a typo or error? What if you sent something completely wrong and want to fix it before the wrong message goes across? Luckily, Skype assumes everyone will make a mistake from time to time, so they’ve made it easy to fix anything in the last message you sent.

Simply hit the Up arrow on your keyboard and your last message will appear in an edit box for you to make corrections. Once you’re finished with the changes, click the Send message button to post the edited version of your message, and your recipient will be none the wiser (assuming they haven’t read it yet).

Use Line Breaks

Simply pressing the Enter key in Skype doesn’t place a line break, it just sends your message. This can be pretty irritating if you’re trying to compose a message with a few spaces in it for clarity.

To create line breaks in your messages, you can use the following steps:

  • Hold down the Shift key while pressing Enter. This will work on a per-message basis.
  • To fix the line break issue permanently, go to Tools > Options > IM & SMS > IM settings and select the option under Pressing Enter will… to insert a line break. Now the Enter (Return) key will give you line breaks instead of sending messages.
