How to Import Gmail Contacts into Outlook 2010

Importing your Gmail contacts into Outlook 2010 is a straightforward 9-step process. It takes less than 5 minutes but will save you hours of administrative thrash in the long run.

Here’s how to do it.

1. Open Gmail and select Contacts.

2. Select More > Export to export your Google contacts.

3. Select contacts and format for export.

You can export selected contacts, a group, or all contacts.

For the format, make sure you select Outlook CSV.

Click Export to continue the process and download the file to the location of your choice.

4. Open Outlook and click the File tab.

5. Click Open > Import and choose Import from another program or file.

Click Next.

6. Select Comma Separated Values (DOS). Click Next.

7. Browse to your Gmail file and choose the applicable option:

  • Replace duplicates with items imported
  • Allow duplicates to be created
  • Do not import duplicate items.

Click Next.

8. Select Contacts. Click Next.

9. Click Finish.

Note: If you have custom fields, click Map Custom Fields and drop the custom field on the left where it should go on the right.
